P-Series PM-HSS Power Skiving Cutters
High-speed carbide isn’t always the answer. For soft, ductile materials or setups prone to vibration, you need a tool that forgives. The Nobeve P-Series is crafted from premium Austrian BÖHLER Powder Metallurgy High-Speed Steel (PM-HSS). Protected by Oerlikon Balzers BALINIT® ALTENSA , it bridges the gap between shaping and carbide skiving, offering reliable DIN AA precision without the brittleness of solid carbide.

INTRODUCTION
Why Choose PM-HSS:Is Carbide Too Brittle for Your Application?
While solid carbide offers speed, it demands perfect rigidity. For many workshops running Turn-Mill centers or machining sticky materials (like low-carbon steels), carbide can be prone to micro-chipping. The P-Series solves this by prioritizing toughness. Its PM-HSS structure absorbs cutting forces and vibrations , making it the ideal choice for stable, cost-effective production of gears under HRC 30.

Austrian DNA: BÖHLER Substrate
We utilize imported BÖHLER solid round bars from Austria. Unlike conventional HSS, this third-generation Powder Metallurgy material features a fine, isotropic microstructure. This uniformity eliminates segregation, significantly improving the tool's transverse rupture strength (TRS) and edge retention during the skiving process.

Optimized Conical Geometry
We specifically recommend the Conical design for our P-Series. This geometry provides superior clearance angles compared to cylindrical types. When combined with the natural toughness of PM-HSS, the conical shape effectively reduces the risk of tooth breakage when machining sticky or ductile materials.
P-SERIES SPOTLIGHT

Balzers ALTENSA Shield
Skiving generates heat. To counter this, every P-Series tool is coated with BALINIT® ALTENSA. This AlCrN-based coating provides superior hot hardness and oxidation resistance, allowing the PM-HSS substrate to perform at cutting speeds of 60–150 m/min, far exceeding traditional HSS limits.

Turn-Mill Compatibility
Designed for versatility, the P-Series is compatible with both dedicated skiving machines and Turn-Mill composite machines. Its forgiveness regarding machine rigidity allows you to perform "Done-in-One" gear cutting on standard multi-tasking centers where solid carbide might be too sensitive to vibration.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATION
Nobeve K-Series is designed for high-performance gear hobbing machines. Whether you are producing automotive gears or precision reducers, these parameters ensure reliability.

Design & Application Note For PM-HSS skiving cutters, we highly recommend the Conical design. This geometry leverages the substrate’s superior toughness, offering distinct advantages when machining soft or ductile materials by significantly reducing the probability of tooth chipping.
Note: Tool wear increases relatively faster when machining harder materials compared to carbide solutions.
WHY CHOOES OUR P-SERIES HSS POWER SKIVING CUTTER

Reduce Risk of Tool Breakage
The P-Series excels in "toughness." When machining soft materials that tend to stick or when using machines with slight backlash, PM-HSS resists the catastrophic shattering that can occur with brittle carbide, ensuring process security.

Lower Initial Tooling Costs
For small-to-medium batches, the P-Series offers a lower price point than solid carbide. Combined with the ability to regrind the tool multiple times, it offers an exceptionally low Cost Per Part (CPP) for general engineering applications.

Solve "Gummy" Material Challenges
Machining materials ≤ HRC 30 often leads to built-up edges. The P-Series, with its specific edge preparation and ALTENSA coating, ensures smooth chip evacuation in oil-cooled environments, preventing material adhesion.

"We run a DMG and needed to add gear cutting to a steel shaft project. We tried carbide, but the vibration was an issue. Nobeve's P-Series handled the interrupted cut perfectly at 120 m/min. The BÖHLER substrate is genuinely tough."

"We produce ring gears in 20CrMnTi (normalized). The P-Series gives us DIN AA quality at a fraction of the cost of carbide skiving tools. We are getting excellent life after regrinding too."

"We had issues with teeth chipping on our prototype line. The Nobeve engineer suggested switching to the Conical P-Series. The toughness difference is real—no more random breakages, just predictable wear."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A
Toughness and Cost. The P-Series uses BÖHLER PM-HSS, which is far less brittle than carbide. This makes it more resistant to chipping in unstable conditions or when machining sticky materials, all at a lower upfront cost.
A
It is optimized for soft and ductile materials with hardness ≤ HRC 35. Common applications include low-carbon steels, normalized alloy steels, and stainless steels where high toughness is required.
A
No. The P-Series requires Oil Cooling. Oil is essential to lubricate the cutting edge, prevent built-up edge (BUE) on soft materials, and flush chips away to protect the coating.
A
Yes. The P-Series is designed for Turn-Mill composite machines as well as skiving machines. Its high toughness makes it more forgiving of the slight vibrations sometimes found in multi-tasking centers compared to rigid gear hobbers.
A
We recommend a Vc of 60–150 m/min. While slower than carbide, this speed is safe for the HSS substrate and significantly faster than traditional gear shaping.
AThe Conical structure provides better clearance angles and structural strength. For PM-HSS, this design leverages the material’s toughness to further reduce the probability of tooth chipping (崩齿) when cutting soft materials.
A
ALTENSA provides high hot hardness and thermal stability. It acts as a thermal barrier, allowing the PM-HSS substrate to withstand the heat generated at skiving speeds without softening immediately.
A
Yes. We offer standard Morse Taper (MT2-MT3), Straight Shank (ST20-ST32), and Bore type mountings. We can also customize the tool dimensions based on your specific machine interface.
